Data- facts or information used usually to calculate, analyze, or plan something; information that is produced or stored by a computer. Data is something that the world as we know it relies on. In nearly every situation data is exchanged by either person or by machine. News is made up from data inputs and even decisions of the government come from data inputs. Data practically runs everything in todays world as data is either transferred throughout a machine or by person to perform tasks. Data is released by many sources such as the government or even ourselves. Some of this data is to inform family members and friends of the daily happening data released by others could turn into a major headline or a news article non the least. Seeing as how this data is being released there are some who fear that too much data is being released and there are some who think the government is keeping secrets by not releasing enough data and of course either may be true. Obtaining data has never been easier though. Most can turn to the internet and find a data on any topic they wish within a few minutes or even others who seek more specific data can easily set up surveys based on whichever topic they may choose. The supply of data in todays world is almost endless and is being exchanged faster than it ever has been, which is something that will never slow back down. Data is nearly a lifeline for the world itself as we would know nothing without it.

I think that the data from the government should be open to all citizens. I do think there is certain information that may need to be kept hidden if it may cause the U.S. harm if it gets into the wrong hands, but overall I think we should be able to access most data from the government. What are your thoughts on this subject?

ReplyDeleteThere is so much I didn't realize we can learn from all the accessible data that is floating around online. We can learn about the statistics of various hospitals around our area, like patient satisfaction surveys or death rates, or even about natural disasters and data about trouble areas around the country.
